DOT (Department of Transportation) physicals are required for commercial drivers to maintain their commercial driver’s license (CDL). These physicals are designed to ensure that commercial drivers are physically and mentally fit to operate a commercial vehicle.
At SRM Urgent Care, we have a certified medical examiner on staff who can perform the examination and provide the necessary certification for DOT physical.
The DOT physical includes a review of the driver’s medical history, a physical examination, and a vision and hearing tests. The medical examiner will also check the driver’s blood pressure, pulse, and test for any signs of diabetes. Drivers will also be required to provide a urine sample for drug testing.
It’s important for commercial drivers to bring their medical history, recent laboratory work-up and any current medications they are taking to the appointment. Drivers should also be prepared to provide their CDL number and any other relevant information.
The certification provided by the medical examiner is valid for up to two years, but it’s important to note that the medical examiner can also issue a certification for a shorter period of time if they determine that the driver has a health condition that needs to be monitored more closely.
